Covid-19: Advice and Guidance to Equine Owners and Registered Farriers based in Wales

The Deputy Chief Veterinary Officer for Wales on behalf of the Welsh Government and the FRC have agreed the following advice for equine owners and Registered Farriers based in Wales.

Farriers registered in Wales should, with immediate effect, prioritise the delivery of farriery services to equines with welfare needs. Equines that pass the time by which routine treatment is due are at risk of becoming welfare cases and Farriers should liaise with equine owners on individual cases. Farriers should not visit equine premises if they display any symptoms of Covid-19, and must exercise 2m spacing and rigorous cleaning of equipment and tools before and after treating equines. PPE should be disposed of in accordance with manufacturers’ instructions and otherwise responsibly. Farriers are to carry their FRC registration card with them at all times, and produce it if challenged by the Police or other law enforcement bodies. Where necessary attention should be drawn to this notice, or otherwise the Police and law enforcement bodies should be asked to contact the Farriers Registration Council.
