In late 2018 Mr Buller was arrested by Lancashire Constabulary on an unrelated matter and following investigation was reported and charged with the offence of carrying out work as a farrier while not registered to do so. On 17 June 2019 at the Preston Magistrates Court, Mr Lewis Buller pleaded guilty and was ordered to pay a fine of £400, a victim surcharge of £40 and costs to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) of £85.

Mr Buller is not registered and holds no farriery qualification which would allow him to be registered.

Under the Farriers (Registration) Act 1975 as amended, it is unlawful for an unregistered person to use the title “farrier” or “shoeing smith” or any other title which may cause another person to believe that the unregistered person is registered. It is also unlawful for any person not registered on the Register of Farriers to carry out farriery; any person who suspects that either or both of these unlawful acts are being carried out should contact their local constabulary with relevant and specific information.
