GB Registration requirements & applications

In order to qualify for Registration in GB persons have to complete an Approved Apprenticeship or period of training and pass a prescribed examination or assessment, or possess an overseas qualification recognised by the Council.
Overseas applications

The Council recognises that in some cases persons may wish to apply for Registration based on their farriery training and professional working experience obtained in an area outside of that covered by the Act.
Registration: 2023 (Jan - Dec)
Throughout 2023, 41 new individuals sought to join the profession by enrolling on the GB Apprenticeship in Farriery or submitting an Overseas Application for Registration. (*Enrolled Apprentices who commenced an Apprenticeship during 2023 are not expected to be eligible to register for a further 3.6 years)
Between 1 January and 31 December 2023, 30 individuals either completed the Apprenticeship in Farriery or met the requirements for registration by means of a qualification and professional experience achieved outside of GB and were eligible to be registered in the Register of Farriers and practice the profession of Farriery within GB.
Qualifications held by individuals successfully registered during 2023 included:
- Apprenticeship in Farriery, including Diploma of the Worshipful Company of Farriers (DipWCF) – prior to 6 October 2023
- Diploma of the Worshipful Company of Farriers (DipWCF) awarded outside of GB
- American Farriers Association (AFA), Certified Journeyman Farrier (CJF)
Application for Certified Journeyman Farrier (American Farrier Association(CJF(AFA)) qualification
Farriers who are registered to practise in GB, i.e. they are listed on the FRC Register, may apply to the American Farriers Association (AFA) for award of the Certified Journeyman Farrier (CJF) qualification.
