Establishment and registration in Part 1 of the Register of Farriers
The Overseas Application route is available to persons seeking to establish themselves as a farrier within GB or to complete any UK-delivered farriery examinations or qualifications that may provide a subsequent route to registration. Applicants are required to:
- have worked regularly and gainfully, for at least two (2) years, as a farrier in an area outside those covered by the Act;
- hold a professional farriery qualification; and
- demonstrate they meet the minimum English language competencies required for registration.
Fixed Term Temporary Licence applications
The Temporary Licence Application route is available to persons who wish to practise farriery within GB for short periods of seasonal work, to undertake limited work experience or to participate in competitions. Applicants are required to have worked regularly and gainfully, for at least two (2) years, as a farrier in an area outside those covered by the Act and demonstrate they have a suitable visa for the intended purpose of their visit. The temporary licensing scheme does not include entry to the Register of Farriers, licences are limited to maximum duration of six (6) months within any twelve (12) month period and persons are required to work under the direct supervision of an Approved Training Farrier (ATF) whilst within GB.
