Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

The FRC expects that after qualifying, all farriers will continue their professional education by committing to keeping up to date with changes and developments in farriery, through lifelong learning and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

CPD activities should be relevant to the individual and should build on their strengths, professional knowledge and skills.

It is recommended that a variety of CPD activities are attempted and that records of study are kept as proof of completion.

Failure to undertake any CPD may count against a farrier whose competence is being considered by the Disciplinary Committee.

The ‘Guide to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for Registered Farriers’ (see Related Documents below) provides information about the requirements from 1 January 2023 and instructions on how to record and submit CPD records.

Mandatory CPD requirements from 1 January 2023

From 1 January 2023 CPD will be mandatory for all Registered Farriers. The first audit and assurance of the new scheme will take place in 2024 in respect of learning undertaken during the period 1 January 2023 to 31 December 2023.
