On 29 July 2026, the Council considered an application from VetSkill for approval by the Council of a Level 3 Diploma in Farriery as an embedded regulatory requirement in the farriery apprenticeship. In particular, the Council satisfied itself that the proposed qualification would assure the requirements set out in the farriery industry standard, and scrutinised the development, availability, and the off the job training set out within the qualification. In exercising its statutory powers, s11 of the Farriers Registration Act 1975 (as amended), the Council subsequently granted its approval for the qualification to be embedded in the farriery apprenticeship.
The current version of the farriery apprenticeship (ST0172, v1.6) is approved by the Council; from versions beyond 1.6, the Farriers Registration Council (FRC) will require completion of the approved qualification alongside the apprenticeship and associated on the job training as a regulatory requirement.
