On 12 June 2019 at the Doncaster Magistrates Court, Mr Jude Hubbard (also known as Mr Jude Oliver and Mr Jude Conlan) was found guilty of a single count of carrying out an act of farriery while not registered to practise on 18 May 2018. Mr Hubbard was sentenced to a conditional discharge for 12 months.  Costs were awarded against Mr Hubbard in the sum of £5000. Mr Hubbard is not registered and holds no farriery qualification which would entitle him to be registered. Finding and sentence are subject to appeal which must be lodged within 21 days.

This prosecution was made possible by a member of public who provided actionable information in respect of Mr Hubbard’s unlawful practise. An FRC investigator witnessed Mr Hubbard carry out an act of farriery on 18 May 2018; there being no Police involvement the Council, having taken advice as to the public interest and the prospect of securing a conviction on the evidence, lodged a private prosecution.
