FRC v Jude Oliver Hubbard – Appeal Against Conviction Refused

23.06.2020

Mr Jude Hubbard (also known as Mr Jude Oliver and Mr Jude Conlan) lodged an appeal on 13 January 2020 against his conviction at Doncaster Magistrates Court on 12 June 2019 on a single count of carrying out unlawful farriery.

In setting out his reasons for refusing the application for appeal, The Recorder of Sheffield, His Honour Judge Jeremy Richardson QC, observed that the appeal had been submitted substantially out of time, and that no adequate explanation for late submission was forthcoming.

HHJ Richardson noted that the issues the applicant sought to raise were more than adequately covered by the FRC in its very full response to the application; he also noted that the District Judge who tried the case gave very full reasons for her decision.

Mr Hubbard’s application for appeal is refused and his conviction for carrying out farriery while not registered to practise on 18 May 2018 stands. Mr Hubbard was awarded a conditional discharge for 12 months and costs were awarded against Mr Hubbard in the sum of £5000.
